On Thursday I finished a book that I got for Christmas. Though I had read it before (in college, I think), I no longer had a copy of Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones.
Awesome book and a lovely gift for someone like me. I realize that I have adopted some of the techniques Goldberg suggests, and I had forgotten how much I loved reading it the first time. With its short, meditative chapters, she truly captures the spirit of the act we love so well.
What are your favorite books about writing?

This sounds great! A few books that I’ve enjoyed include “Escaping into the Open the Art of Writing True” by Elizabeth Berg and “The Art of Memoir” by Mary Karr. At Christmas, my granddaughter, the budding writer, loaned me her copy of “Bird by Bird” by Anne Lamott, and I’m looking forward to reading that. For motivation in writing for kids, I LOVE the book “Writing from the Heart How to Write for Children,” which is written by the wonderful author Joy Cowley.
